Meet Alexander

Alexander Mercks is a renowned handpan virtuoso who creates ethereal and immersive music that transports listeners to another world.

With his mesmerising playing style, Alex evokes a wide range of emotions, from meditative introspection to joyful celebration. He discovered his love for music at a young age but was mostly on the listener’s and dancer’s end, finding shelter and liveliness in the beauty of the diverse music in this world.

His journey led him to the handpan in 2014 - a unique and versatile instrument that he has since mastered. Throughout his career, Alex has played at numerous festivals and concerts around the world, captivating audiences with his artistry and passion for music. For about 7 years, he toured and co-created together with Malte Marten as Yatao and gained global success live and online.

“Ayasa handpans are in my opinion the best handpans in the world. I just love their resonant, warm sound and the accuracy of their craftmanship. Every Ayasa that leaves the workshop is built with so much love, care and precision that it leaves nothing else to wish for. I have met Ralf back in 2015 and have seen his team, his work and his personality beautifully grow over the past decade. Huge gratitude to Ralf and the whole team for your daily never-ending dedication to this instrument!”
